Murray Garrett

Murray Garrett’s first professional photographic assignment was to cover Eleanor Roosevelt and Philip Murray attending a musical play about unions.

From that auspicious beginning until the end of his professional career, Garrett worked and personally interacted with celebrities in show business, sports, politics, and the arts and sciences.

Working in New York for Graphic House, Inc., Garrett covered Broadway hits such as “Oklahoma”, “Song of Norway” and “Carousel”. When the company opened a West Coast office, Garrett moved to Hollywood and worked for major magazines including Time, Parade, This Week and Fortune.

In a career that spanned some 30 years, Garrett photographed just about every important Hollywood star at work and at leisure. He also came into contact with many other famous people including Eleanor Roosevelt, the Nixon family, John F. Kennedy, Igor Stravinsky and Babe Ruth.
